Stuck in that middle ground wondering if he/she likes you, doesn't like you, you like them…in this article, I'm covering signs a coworker likes you but is hiding it.

Office/workplace romances are common. It's estimated that around 50% of all office workers will have some kind of romantic involvement with a coworker at some point.

That's a lot.

It's not that hard to understand, we do spend most of our days in the office surrounded by our coworkers.

The tricky part is often identifying if a coworker likes you, as in really likes you, or is just being friendly. Especially if they are trying to hide it!

Don't worry, there are some signs to look out for that will give away how they're feeling. Here are 10 of the most obvious signs that a coworker likes you but is trying to hide it:

10 Signs a Coworker Likes You but Is Hiding It

They Use Any Excuse to Talk to You

This is often the most obvious sign someone likes someone else at work. It may not always mean they fancy you or are attracted to you, but it's a strong signal they like you.

If you're new in the office, you can expect a bit of buzz while people get to know you. If a certain someone continues to find any excuse to talk to you, I'd investigate further!

They're Interested in Learning About You

There is always that person in the office who is really personable – or outright nosey -, but if someone is paying particular attention to you, there is probably more to it.

It's simple, if someone likes you they will want to find out more about you. So, combined with finding any reason to talk to you, if they're not just interested in work-related stuff – they're interested in you.

They've Started Making More Effort in Their Appearance

Within the working environment, it doesn't take long to get an idea of how much effort someone makes in their appearance.

If someone, and I'm talking about that someone who is showing other signs they like you, starts making more effort, it's a strong sign they like you.

They Are Extremely Helpful

I don't know about your workplace, but in all the places I've worked there haven't been too many people willing to jump in and help me out.

And there have been even fewer people willing to go that extra mile and really help. Maybe it's just me, and maybe this reveals no one has ever liked me! If you have a fan always trying to help you out, you know what it means.

You Keep Catching Them Looking at You

Staring is often considered rude, but a little glance and some daydreaming about a crush is cute. It's a fine line, but there is a huge difference.

If you keep catching a coworker gazing over at you, you should be flattered. It's a very strong sign that they like you and want to appreciate your beauty.

They Remember Little Things About You

If family and close friends can't even remember key dates and little things about you, what does that say about a coworker who knows your favorite color, how you take your coffee, and when your birthday is?

When someone is truly interested in someone else – especially in those early days – they'll listen and remember.

They Act Nervous or Awkward Around You

This is one of the more cute signs in my opinion. You know, when someone likes someone so much they are nervous or awkward around them.

Stuff like stumbling on words, being a bit twitchy, blushing. They might just be nervous by nature, pay attention to how they interact with others in the workplace. It should be obvious who is making them a little hot under the collar.

They Make the Effort to Find Out if You're Single

No one wants to end up hooked on someone that is taken. If someone is interested in you, they're going to suss out whether or not you're single.

It takes a bold person to ask directly. They are more likely to ask around the office or try and find out indirectly by asking what you're getting up to in the evening.

Co-Workers Are Mentioning They're Asking About You

Office gossip travels faster than a cheetah chasing its prey. If someone is asking questions about you, this information is going to find its way back to you.

It sounds obvious, but people don't casually ask questions about another coworker unless they want to know more about them. And why would they want to know more?

They're Getting Closer to You at Work

If there is any way they can get closer to you, such as moving desks, joining you on lunch, 'accidentally' bumping into you in the kitchen, and they're doing it, you know they're interested.

Once or twice, maybe it's a coincidence. Every day… it's not. This is one of the easier ways to test them, go somewhere and see if they follow.

Summary – How Do You Know if a Coworker Likes You but Is Hiding It?

All of the above signs are a great way to get a good idea of whether or not a coworker likes you and is hiding it.

But you can never really know for sure unless you ask!

If you're seeing loads of the signs to suggest they like you, you have the upper hand. It's like having some insider knowledge, they're almost certainly going to say "yes!" when you ask if they're interested.

If you don't have the nerve to talk to them yourself, you're as bad as each other. Someone is going to have to make the first move, unless you're not interested, of course.

This is where having friends in the office can go a long way. They can relate a message on your behalf to avoid any feelings being hurt in a confrontational way.

Office or working relationships can become complicated. You have to work together and see each other all the time, just be careful to think about all the scenarios before acting in the heat of the moment!

What Should You Do if a Coworker Likes You?

It's almost always flattering, but it's not always welcome or a good idea. Coworker relationships are even more complicated than regular relationships outside of work.

You need to first consider if you're as interested as they are. Then how you're going to go about getting involved without it affecting your work – especially if it doesn't work out.

As I said at the beginning though, relationships between coworkers are common. More common than most people know as a lot of people keep it quiet.

A lot of it depends on your individual circumstances, just be sure to act with your head first! And, be aware that you're probably going to have to be the one to make the first move.
